Elements of Chemistry - Capture

penny reid, elements of chemistry, capture de Penny Reid, 2015.

Présentation de l'auteur : One week. Manhattan apartment. Super-hot ex-boyfriend… What’s the worst that could happen?

It’s been nine months since Kaitlyn Parker has seen or heard from Martin Sandeke—nine months and five stages of matter. She’s lived through the worst of first-love heartbreak, and is most certainly stronger (and less likely to hide in science cabinets) than ever before.

But now Martin is back. And he wants to be friends. But he’s sending mixed signals to the Bunsen burner in Kaitlyn’s pants. Will Martin re-capture Kaitlyn’s heart? Can Kaitlyn and Martin ever be just friends? Or, despite an abundance of chemistry, are some bonds just too unstable to endure ?

Third and final book in the trilogy, CAPTURE closes Kaytlin and Martin history and opens on future possibilities, and knowing Penny, it's certain that we will see these two heroes again later...

At the end of HEAT, overwhelmed by external events, Kaytlin and Martin had to make hard choices and Kaitlyn said "goodbye" to Martin... 7 months later, we find her changed : she stopped her scientific studies and is now focusing on music and will soon begin a new semester. To keep a certain independence, even with the help of her parents, she is now part of a small group that plays everywhere they can.

Kaitlyn has carefully avoided any mention of Martin in the press, so when she sees him at an evening gala where her band plays, she is disturbed. And when he asks her to review the terms of their friendships (well read Volume 1 to understand this concept xD), it's even more disruptive for her because, a priori, she is not finished with him ^^.

Kaitlyn thought she had moved on, she had even considered that perhaps Abram (musician in the band) could be of a romantic interest (by the way, we will have a book about Abram ♥), can she keep Martin as a friend or not, or get back with him ?

On the other side, we have a transformed Martin, ready to win back the heart of Kaitlyn :D. Well, he is still making mistakes, but in the end he became more cute than at the beginning.

The Young Adult, it is not my favorite genre, usually I struggle to believe that 20 year olds can have as much wisdom, and critical thinking on their lives, Martin is a business man, he looks like he already has 10-year career at 21 years. Ok he is perhaps not stupid but when I visualize these characters I see them at my age (+10 years xD) and when I think about how I was at 20 it depresses me to compare xD.

It will not be my favorite book of Penny, but I didn't hate it either ...

Elements of Chemistry - Heat

penny reid,elements of chemistry,heat

penny reid, elements of chemistry, heat de Penny Reid (2015).

Présentation de l'auteur : Four days left. Private beach (…and boat). Not so invisible girl. And maybe less of a jerk-faced bully than originally thought. What’s the worst (or the best) that could happen?

Kaitlyn is finding life outside of the science cabinet of obscurity to be quite illuminating …and so are her pants. When things heat up between Kaitlyn Parker and Martin—previously known as the jerk-faced bully—Sandeke, she places her trust in the one person she never thought capable of earning it, let alone keeping it safe. Fortunately or unfortunately for Kaitlyn, where she gives her trust she can’t help but also give her heart.

But how will the world beyond the sanctuary of their newfound connection react to their relationship? Soon senators, chinless billionaires, and elements beyond Martin and Kaitlyn’s control want to weigh in on the young couple’s future. Navigating the chaotic inferno of new love might be more than Kaitlyn bargained for, and much, much more than her trust—or her heart—can handle.

♥♥♥♥♥♥

After a first part that poses the relationship between Kaitlyn Martin and the overall plot ... HEAT goes right in the middle of things !

On one hand, we follow the evolution of Kaitlyn and Martin, they begin to tame and learn to trust eachother (even if nothing is won in advance). Gradually they let their passions take shape, and quickly jump on each other ^^ *Attention explicit content as they say* but it is never out of place, and Kaitlyn and Martin are smart enough to do not ruminate in their corner if something bothers them. Kaitlyn has never had a boyfriend before and Martin has never had a serious relationship, so they are both a little lost in their own way.

On the other hand, you learn more about Kaitlyn's mom being a senator and how Marin's father is an asshole. And in all this, we have a story of a blackmail, which will force Kaitlyn and Martin to make difficult choices. And then "poof" it ends in a crisis situation, thank you Penny xD

I can't wait to read part 3 CAPTURE !

Présentation de l'éditeur : One week. Private beach. Invisible girl. Jerk-faced bully. What’s the worst that could happen?

Kaitlyn Parker has no problem being the invisible girl, which is why she finds herself hiding in various cabinets and closets all over her college campus. Despite her best efforts, she can’t escape the notice of Martin Sandeke—bad boy, jerkface bully, and the universe’s hottest, wealthiest, and most unobtainable bachelor—who also happens to be Kaitlyn’s chemistry lab partner.

Kaitlyn might be the only girl who isn’t interested in exploiting his stunning rower’s build, chiseled features, and family's billionaire fortune. Kaitlyn wants Martin for his brain, specifically to tabulate findings of trace elements in surface water.

When Kaitlyn saves Martin from a nefarious plot, Martin uses the opportunity to push Kaitlyn out of her comfort zone: spring break, one week, house parties, bathing suits, and suntan lotion. Can she overcome her aversion to being noticed? Will he be able grow beyond his self-centered nature? Or, despite their obvious chemistry, will Martin be the one to drive Kaitlyn into the science cabinet of obscurity for good?

Maintenant j'attend xD

I do not read many novels with young adults, when I do they are books by authors I already know so I liked those I read... This one I liked it too, but I think I would wait to read volumes 2 and 3 for a final opinion.

I really liked Kaitlyn (the fact that she is a Doctor Who fan has nothing to do with it xD), she is far from naive, she do not let herself be pushed around and do not hesitate to drop witty comments to destabilize and soften the atmosphere. She may have no love life experience but it won't prevent her from saying what she thinks to Martin ^^.

Martin, alpha male of his group of friends, we also discover that he is a little insecure when he is alone with Kaitlyn. She doesn't treat him like the others and expects nothing of him, so naturally she shakes him up...

This first part ends on the first "impediment" that will have to be overcome, I found it great, with a few bits of intrigue revealed gradually to stir curiosity and make me want to read the next books. Now I wait xD

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
