Résumé : There are three things you need to know about Oliver:
1) He’s a fabulously wealthy playboy who incidentally happens to be a code-writing genius,
2) For maybe the first time in his life, he’s trying to do the right thing, and
3) Someone wants him dead.

Oliver’s life has already been saved once by the gorgeous yet grumpy “close protection specialist” provided by Cipher Security, Dallas. She calls him uncooperative. He’d prefer to think of himself as unpredictable and stimulating.

But when an assassin gets way too close for comfort, the party boy is whisked away from the lively city where he’s the social king, to the desolate Yukon wilderness where Dallas is a master of survival (and grumpiness). Living wild and isolated reveals several illuminating truths, and suddenly they both find themselves in uncharted territory where grumpy can be sexy, sarcasm might be hot, capable is definitely dangerous, and trust is the strongest survival skill of all.


Au premier contact, il est difficile d'imaginer que Dallas et Oliver finiront ensemble, tellement ils sont à l'opposé l'un de l'autre. Même en tant que lecteur, on se demande ce qui pourra bien se passé pour que ces deux-là amorce une manoeuvre de rapprochement... Il faudra des assassins et une fuite dans le Yukon sauvage.

Quelqu'un veut tuer Oliver pour l'empêcher de diffuser un programme informatique très utile, Dallas est chargée de sa protection rapprochée. Mais quand ils manquent de se faire tuer plusieurs fois, la meilleure solution est d'aller se perdre dans la nature. Dallas emmène donc Oliver dans le domaine de sa famille, au fin fond du Yukon, en plein hiver. Fini le confort de son appartement, Oliver est projeté dans un modeste chalet sans eau courante ni électricité, avec Dallas pour lui apprendre les règles de base de la survie en milieu hostile.

Ai-je précisé au début, que Dallas et Oliver n'étaient pas trop fan de l'un de l'autre ? Tous deux vont devoir mettre leurs opinions de côté, travailler ensemble, se soutenir et se protéger. L'isolation et la proximité forcées, vont les faire s'ouvrir à l'autre et partager plus d'eux-mêmes que ce qu'on voit en surface. Il y a plus de profondeur et de blessure derrière l'image d'enfant gâté d'Oliver ; il y a plus de vibrance et d'émotions dans le coeur de Dallas derrière cette attitude distante et glaciale.

La famille de Dallas est issue des Premières Nations du Canada, lorsqu'Oliver se prépare à la rencontrer, il demande à Dallas de lui raconter son histoire : les traditions, le mode de vie, les évènements tragiques... Dès qu'ils arrivent dans le Yukon, on fait connaissance avec le conte du loup et du corbeau, je vous laisserais découvrir le rapprochement avec nos héros ;)

Je dirais que pour ce romantic suspense, c'est pas tant la romance le plus intéressant, mais plus l'histoire de vie des personnages et en particulier celle de Dallas : son rapport à son identité, les liens avec sa famille.

In the beginning, it's hard to imagine that Dallas and Oliver will end up together, as they are so opposed to each other. Even as a reader, one wonders what could possibly happen for these two to initiate a "get closer" maneuver... It will take assassins and an escape into the wild Yukon.

Someone wants to kill Oliver to prevent him from broadcasting a very useful computer program, Dallas is in charge of his close protection. But when they nearly get killed several times, the best solution is to go get lost in nature. Dallas takes Oliver to her family's home ground, deep in the Yukon, in the middle of winter. No more comfy apartment, Oliver is thrown into a modest cabin with no running water or electricity, with Dallas to teach him the basic rules of survival in a hostile environment.

Did I say, that Dallas and Oliver weren't too much of a fan of each other ? Both will have to put their opinions aside, work together, support and protect each other. The forced isolation and proximity will make them open up to each others and share more of themselves than what we see. There is more depth and hurt behind Oliver's spoiled child image ; there is more vibrance and feelings in the heart of Dallas behind this her distant and icy attitude.

Dallas' family is from the First Nations of Canada, when Oliver is about to meet them, he asks Dallas to tell him her story: the traditions, the way of life, the tragic events... As soon as they arrive in the Yukon, we learn the tale of the wolf and the raven, I'll let you discover the connection with our heroes ;)

I would say that for this romantic suspense, the romance isn't the most interesting bit, but the life story of the characters and in particular Dallas' stoty : her connection to her identity, the links with her family.

Darius designs security systems for Cipher Security, and the strange and remarkable woman he met the night the painting was stolen is as intriguing a mystery as his hunt for the thief is.

But the lady has no filter, and she knows she can’t lie to the man who looks like a Disney Prince and kisses like fairytales are true, so she runs from the one person who may actually see her as the heroine of her own story.


J'avais adoré le tome 1 "Code of Conduct", gros coup de coeur pour celui-là également !

Déjà l'intrigue tient en suspense tout le long du roman, le rythme est parfait, on en apprend petit à petit et les indices se dévoilent pour lever le mystère sur le lien entre le vol de 2 tableaux : un 30 ans plus tôt et l'autre au début de l'histoire. l'histoire derrière le mystère est d'ailleurs plutôt touchante.

Le couple de héros ne pourrait pas être plus différent l'un de l'autre, mais c'est pour ça qu'ils vont très bien ensemble et que l'alchimie passe entre eux comme du courant électrique ! Anna est la jumelle bizarre de la paire, elle est chasseuse de prime, garçon manqué, et n'a aucun filtre. Elle dit ce qu'elle pense quand elle le pense et n'a même plus le temps d'être embarrassée à cause de ça. Elle adore les jeux de rôles et s'est construit un personnage de badass, style Robin des Bois au féminin, "Honor" et essaie d'agir selon ses principes (vous voyez d'où vient le titre). Pour elle, voler le tableau représentant sa mère et sa tante à un business man véreux, n'est que justice pour sa maman.

Darius a beau ressembler à une version sexy d'Aladdin, il est tout l'opposé d'Anna. Déjà il crée des système de sécurité, dont celui de la maison qu'Anna cambriole, de quoi le titiller hein. Ensuite son histoire personnelle est assez dure, sans rentrer dans tous les détails sinon ça spoile, il a appris très tôt a avoir des responsabilité et à agir pour ce qui est juste. C'est pourquoi son attirance pour Anna le perturbe, comment pourrait-il être avec elle, alors que sa façon de vivre sa vie bouscule quelqu'un de ses principes ?...

c'est en travaillant à résoudre le mystère du tableau volé il y a 30 ans que chacun va apprendre l'autre et voir qu'il y a beaucoup de gris entre le noir et le blanc (oulala c'est bateau comme phrase mais je l'ai piqué ce roman ... pas à l'autre xD). J'ai beaucoup aimé Anna c'est une Wonder Woman qui referme pas mal d'insécurité et Darius est vraiment un prince de Disney qui n'a pas peur des bizarreries de cette nana qui lui est tombée dessus ^^

I loved book 1 "Code of Conduct", this one is a big favorite too !

First, the intrigue holds us in suspense throughout the novel, the rhythm is perfect, the story clues are revealed little by little in order to lift the mystery on the the theft of 2 paintings : one stole 30 years ago and the other at the beginning of the book. the story behind the mystery is also rather touching.

The couple couldn't be more different from each other, but that's why they go so very well together and the chemistry between them is like electric current ! Anna is the weird twin, a bounty hunter, tomboy, and she has no filters. She says what she thinks when she thinks it and doesn't even have the time to be embarrassed because of it. She loves role playing and has built a badass character, Robin Hood style a a woman, "Honor" and tries to act according to her rules (you see where the title comes from). For her, stealing the painting of her mother and aunt from a crooked business man is only justice for her mother.

Darius may look like a sexy Aladdin, but he is the opposite of Anna. He is creating security systems, including the one inside the house that Anna is robbing, that's enough to tickle him, eh. His personal story is quite hard, without spoiling it, he learned very early to have responsibilities and to act for what is right. This is why his attraction for Anna disturbs him, how could he be with her, when her way of living her life goes against his rules ?

It is while working to solve the mystery of the stolen painting 30 years ago that they will learn from each other and see that there is a lot of gray between black and white (yes it is a lame phrase but I I stole it from this novel ... not to the other book xD). I really liked Anna, she is a Wonder Woman who hides a lot of insecurity and Darius is really a Disney prince who is not afraid of the quirks of this girl who fell on him ^^

1) P.I. is not her last name, it’s her job title,
2) Her specialty is catching cheaters, and
3) She’s a superhuman – kind of.

Gabriel is a security expert for Cipher Security, and a former UN Peacekeeper with a fierce protective streak that finds its focus on the beautiful P.I.

Their attraction is like an elephant in a room full of breakable things, and figuring out how to trust each other with their hearts, and maybe their lives, is the most fragile thing of all.

'Code of Conduct' is a full-length contemporary romantic suspense, can be read as a standalone, and is book#1 in the Cipher Security series, Knitting in the City World, Penny Reid Book Universe.


2e roman des Smartypants Romance lu en ARC, toujours sans avoir lu aucun livre de cette auteur avant, et encore une qu'il faudra découvrir car elle a le sens du suspense pour son intrigue et crée une tension entre les héros qui fait péter la température xD

dès le début elle nous achève avec l'héroïne, Shane, qui compare Gabriel à un Idris Elba jeune, donc voilà 1er chapitre et c'est foutu : Gabriel a la voix d'Idris dedans ma tête, en plus il est british, vraiment, tu nous aides pas April là... et en plus, on a DAN THE SECURITY MAN ♥

Outre le couinage intensif que ce roman procure, on a une vraie alchimie entre Shane et Gabriel, ça fait des étincelles (voir un feu d'artifice) à chaque interaction, mais les deux ayant d'abord une relation professionnelle, ils ont une enquête à mener avant de se jeter l'un sur l'autre. Ils sont tous les deux conscients de leur attraction respective mais comme il y a un méchant à arrêter, ils ont pas forcément l'occasion rêvée pour prendre 5 min à eux... jusqu'à... ben *wiggly eyebrows*

Gabriel et Shane sont tous les deux des personnages forts, dans le sens où ils ne se laissent pas abattre par leur blessures du passé : ils ont tous les deux vécu des évènements traumatisant et en garde des séquelles physique (pour Shane, qui est amputée) ou psychologiques (pour Gabriel, qui a du faire un choix terrible alors qu'il était casque-bleu au Nigéria), ils ont décidé d'avancer. Ils sont parfaits l'un pour l'autre ♥

cette série ravira les fan de romantic suspense, et si mon intuition a raison pour les candidats d'un futur tome 2, ça va encore être chaud bouillant xD

2nd novel of the Smartypants Romance read in ARC, without having read any book of this author before too, and still one that I will have to read because she has the sense of suspense for her intrigue and she creates a tension between the heroes which makes the temperature rise xD

from the beginning she kills us with the heroine, Shane, who compares Gabriel to a young Idris Elba, so 1st chapter and we're doomed : Gabriel has the voice of Idris in my head, besides he is British, really you do not help us April... and we have DAN THE SECURITY MAN gaaah ♥

In addition to the intensive squealing that this novel provides, we have a real alchemy between Shane and Gabriel, it makes sparks (or a firework) at each interaction, but the two are having a professional relationship, they have an investigation to lead before throwing one on each other. They are both aware of their respective attraction but as there is a villain to stop, they do not necessarily have the opportunity to take 5 minutes to kiss... until ... well * wiggly eyebrows *

Gabriel and Shane are both strong characters, in the sense that they do not let their wounds of the past get them down : as they both experienced traumatic events and physical damage (for Shane, who is amputated) or psychological (for Gabriel, who had to make a terrible choice while he was a UN peacekeeper in Nigeria), they decided to move forward. They are perfect for each other ♥

this series will delight fans of romantic suspense, and if my intuition is right for the candidates of a future volume 2, it will still be hot xD
